ABOUT ME
HIS STORYGeorgiy Derbas-Richter is a Ukrainian baritone based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He joins the young ensemble at the Grand Théâtre de Genève under the new Intendanz of Alain Perroux for the 2026/27 season,
where he makes role debuts as Boatswain in a new production of La Tempête by Martin Frank, Don Alvaro in a new production of Il viaggio a Reims, Jack Wallace in La fanciulla del West, directed by Marie-Eve Signeyrole and conducted by Antonio Fogliani, and Captain/Tsar Ivan in Bernstein’s Candide in concert alongside Natalie Dessay and Kathryn Lewek.
Recent role debuts include Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos with Dutch Touring Opera and Marco in Barrie Kosky’s new production of Gianni Schicchi (Il trittico) at Dutch National Opera. Further role debuts during his tenure at the Dutch National Opera Studio include the Hunter in a new production of Rusalka under the baton of Joanna Mallwitz; Morales in a revival of Robert Carsen’s Carmen; Lesbo in a revival of Barrie Kosky’s Agrippina; and Curio in Giulio Cesare in a new production by Calixto Bieito, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm, which has since been released on DVD (Naxos).
He is a graduate of the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Dutch National Opera Studio. His repertoire includes Valentin (Faust), Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Fritz (Die tote Stadt), Hamlet (Ambroise Thomas), and Chitéron/Satyr in Platée.
